Visapur

Difficulty Level: Medium Height: 3000 ft
Visapur is a huge fort and one would recognizes Visapur pior to Lohagad because of it’s huge size. Eventhough it is big and protected by a highly impregnable fortification and having a very large plateau on top, less is known to trekkers about it. One can find lots of water falls in the monsoons. The biggest fall will pass very close to Bhaje caves. From the top of Visapur one can see Lohagad, Tung, Tikona forts, Pawna dam and Karla caves as well. Bhaje caves are carved out in the same mountain.
Prasad, Prashant and Myself started from Pune the morning. We had breakfast in Panshet, here one will get decent breakfast. And we reached the the foot steps of Visapur and parked our bikes near to a small shop. We immediately started walking to the right of Visapur. We don’t have any idea of route to top, somehow we doesn’t take the rock path(water flow path). We have to complete 1800 rotation to get to the other path. Meanwhile in the route we tried for short cuts, which made our life a bit difficult. At that point of time Prashant was so angry on me. Somehow we got the main route and reached the top within half an hour. We had almost taken 1 hour to walk around the huge visapur fort.
You can have a glimpse of Mumbai- Pune Express highway and Karla caves on the way to top. I m sure u will get surprised after reaching the top, because of huge plateau on top. One should need at least 1-2 Hrs to roam around the Visapur on top. Fortification of the Bhaje caves side is just amazing and made to perfection. From the nose of Visapur, one can have amazing view of Lohagad fort. U can find a huge grinding wheel on the top. All the buildings on top were almost destroyed. It will be an amazing night stay in summer. We started trek down by the other route (path of water flow), which will take 20 odd minutes. It is an a very good experience for us and we enjoyed the trip and reached back to Pune around 2PM.
Ways to Reach:
There are two ways to reach the top of Visapur
1. From Lohagaon:
This is a bit difficult way to reach the top. Especially in the monsoons the route is very slippery and one has to walk against the water flow from top. During other seasons it is very much easy and shortest route. From Lohagaon you have to walk toward Visapur and walk to right side of Visapur, whereas main route is heading to Malavali. After 10 minutes walk you can find a rock patch on the left hand side. Basically this is the path of water from top in monsoon. So take a left turn and start climbing the fort. U can reach the top after 30 minutes non stop trek. If you does not take this left turn at this point, you have to roam around fort for about 1800 , there you will find the easiest route to top (Just opposite side of fort). We have done this mistake, that’s why I would like to warn you.
2. From Paatangaon:
This is the Base village of Visapur, hardly you can find any people here. One should take a left turn from the main road (Malavali to Lohagaon Road) at Gaimukh Khind. From here right side, i.e main road will take you to Lohagaon. This is the easiest route to reach the top. You can find steps at regular intervals heading to top, but those almost in the ruined stage.
